Farmers and their families have gathered at Old Tailem Town for a Rotary Pioneer Adventure Day on Sunday.
The initiative, delivered in partnership with Rotary International, supported farming families facing drought and rising cost-of-living pressures by providing a free day focused on wellbeing, connection and community support.
Old Tailem Town volunteer Nathan Harvey said the event was designed to give farmers and their families a free break from their daily pressures.
“It’s about creating a positive experience where people can relax, connect, and look after themselves,” he said.
“Everything here today is absolutely free for all of the 250 registered farming families.
“It’s about reminding people they’re supported and not alone.”

Enjoying Old Tailem Town are Navi Tan and Benjamin DeWinnar; Lyndel Pacula and Maria Munro; Jeff Cluso, John Goodridge, Bill Miles and Hadi Jafarr; Amy Kocsis, Dan Organ and Emma Love; Tailem Bend Line Dancers; Billy Watkins; Nathan Harvey; Rebecca Power; and folks taking a carriage ride. The day featured a wide variety of attractions, including food stalls, books, handmade crafts, charity groups and live music, ensuring there was something for everyone.
A strong focus was also placed on health services, with free haircuts, skin checks and breast screening – practical supports that are often difficult to access in regional areas.
More than 250 farming families registered to attend, alongside members of the public, while over 100 volunteers helped bring the event together.
High attendance meant that organisers even ran short of entry materials at one point, highlighting the strong community response.
Following overnight thunderstorms, the weather cleared to blue skies and a light breeze, creating ideal conditions for the event.
