Hundreds of locals have waved goodbye to 2025 at a celebration on Murray Bridge’s riverfront.

Food trucks and live music kept everyone fed and entertained until 9.30pm, when a fireworks show and light display illuminated the city’s road and rail bridges.

Unfortunately, the spectacle set off several fires in dry reeds on the east side of the River Murray, but firefighters quickly rolled in and sorted things out.

Fire was a hazard during any fireworks show, Murray Bridge Country Fire Service captain Jiron Blacket said, though he believed it was the first time in a decade or more that there had been any problems at the NYE event.

The brigade had a truck on standby nearby, ready to respond to any emergency on the east side while the road bridge was closed.
