The Murray Bridge council might have a big budget and a lot of employees, but without volunteers like these it would struggle to do a number of things.
That was the message from CEO Heather Barclay on Friday, as the rural city hosted an end-of-year thank you afternoon tea.
A total of 227 council volunteers had given more than 20,000 hours of service to the community over the past year, she said, worth almost $970,000.
They helped visitors to the Round House, Captain’s Cottage, art gallery and performing arts centre; welcomed tourists at the visitor information centre; removed graffiti; provided assistance to locals of all ages at the Station, Lerwin, the library and the Brinkley Reuse Centre; maintained halls, gardens and dog parks; and even offered Justice of the Peace services.
“None of this would happen without your hard work,” Ms Barclay said.
“We’re forever thankful for the time you’ve given and continue to give.”
