The Callington Agricultural and Horticultural Society has hosted a lavish afternoon tea to officially celebrate the completion of its new pavilion.
Although the shed was put up in time for last year’s show, it has since been properly lined and fitted out with a kitchen, office and meeting room.
There to cut a cake were state Primary Industries and Regional Development Minister Clare Scriven, along with Murray Bridge Mayor Wayne Thorley and his Mount Barker counterpart, David Leach.
Each of their organisations contributed tens of thousands of dollars to the build; the rest of the cost was met by local donations, including from the show society and recreation park, Colrae Farms, Premix Concrete SA, Hillgrove Resources, Hughes Construction and the Wundersitz family.
Ms Scriven said the project had ticked all the boxes: it would help with participation, connection and accessibility.
“I was really pleased to provide $50,000, through the Primary Regions Fund, for a project that’s going to help the local community and the broader region for years to come,” she said.
The show society began advocating for funding early last year, noting their desperate need for more storage and display space.
