Uninsured homeowners affected by the River Murray floods can now apply for up to $20,000 worth of relief.

A new “re-establishment” grant offers up to $10,000 for structural repairs, plus up to $10,000 for essential items such as appliances and furniture, to people whose main residence was flooded.

Applications should be made through the flood recovery centre at 28 Bridge Street, Murray Bridge, or the centres at Mannum or Berri.

Grants will be subject to an income test.

Federal Emergency Management Minister Murray Watt said the grants would provide targeted relief to flood-affected communities.

“I encourage all uninsured property owners who have been impacted by flooding to apply at their local recovery centre as soon as possible,” he said.

More than $1.7 million will be made available through the joint state and federal scheme.
