A strong and respectful crowd has attended Tailem Bend’s Anzac Day service at the soldiers’ memorial on Railway Terrace at dawn on Saturday.
As the violet sky softened with first light, students from Tailem Bend Primary School walked solemnly with candles, lining each side of the cenotaph, while the names of local World War I fallen were read aloud.
It was a moving tribute that held the crowd in silence.
The Australian anthem was beautifully sung by a local vocalist, with her voice magically carrying across the gathered community.
The ceremony, once again, felt deeply meaningful and well supported.
Afterwards, many made their way to the Tailem Bend RSL for a traditional gunfire breakfast: bacon and egg rolls, cheeseburgers, and hearty burgers with the lot shared among friends and veterans alike.
The traditional shots of rum, kindly donated by MP Tony Pasin, added to the tradition.
It was a morning of remembrance, connection, and genuine community pride.
