Murray Bridge police have stumbled upon a stockpile of drugs, weapons and stolen goods in the wake of a routine traffic stop on Monday morning.

It all began when officers pulled over a Ford sedan on Bridge Street around 1am on Monday, after a check allegedly showed that its driver did not have a valid licence.

Upon searching the vehicle, they allegedly found a traffickable quantity of methamphetamine.

They arrested the 48-year-old driver and denied him bail ahead of a court appearance.

The arrest led police to search a property at Murray Bridge East, where they allegedly found all sorts of stolen goods, including:

  • 11 guns
  • Nine solar batteries
  • Two trailers

One of the trailers was clearly marked as the property of Mannum Community College’s pedal prix team, and had been reported stolen in 2021.

In the end, the driver will face charges of drug trafficking, receiving stolen goods, driving while suspended and resisting arrest.

Police charged two more men, 35 and 45, with theft; and a fourth man, 69, with theft and firearms offences.

All were booked for dates in Murray Bridge Magistrates’ Court, starting with the driver on Tuesday and the 69-year-old on Wednesday of this week.
