The Murraylands Community Photography Group is preparing for a night where the past will come vividly alive.

On Thursday, May 21, from 5.30-7.30pm at the Murray Bridge Library, the group will host an engaging workshop titled History Being Saved by Photos.

It won’t just be an exhibition – it will be an invitation to chat and discuss the importance of photography.

Everyone is encouraged to come along and even bring some of their own treasured images on USB sticks, ready to be shared, projected, and explored together in a relaxed, welcoming space.

At the heart of the evening will be Keven Lukey, whose remarkable archive of historical photographs tells powerful stories of both the Murraylands and beyond.

Among his most treasured pieces are black-and-white images captured by his grandfather, Corporal Alfred John “Jack” Gibbons, a military photographer with the 78th Squadron in the Pacific in 1944.

These photographs don’t just document history – they reveal it.

Faces, fleeting moments, quiet interactions with local people – each frame holds a human story that still resonates today.

As the images light up the room, they will spark conversations about image, content and composition, to name just a few photography skills; memories will surface; and perspectives will shift.

Alongside Mr Lukey’s extraordinary collection, Julie Moulds will treat attendees with the chance to see their own photographs and become part of a shared community experience.

You don’t need to be a member to attend; just bring your curiosity, your stories, and perhaps a few images of your own.

This free event will be about connection, discovery, and celebrating the rich visual history that lives within our communities.
