Students at Tailem Bend's primary school have had the chance to get their hands on the Australian Parliament House flag as part of a nationwide roadshow.

The massive flag, measuring 12.8 by 6.4 metres, usually flies high above Parliament House in Canberra, but is currently travelling around Australia to visit schools.

On Wednesday, August 13, MP Tony Pasin visited Tailem Bend Primary School to give local students the rare opportunity to see the iconic flag up close and personal.

Principal Travis Schenke said it was an unforgettable experience for both students and staff.

"Not only did they get to see and handle a remarkable piece of our nation’s history, but they also had the chance to learn about the values it represents," he said.

"It’s moments like these that spark curiosity, pride and a deeper understanding of our role as active citizens."

Mr Pasin said he was proud to bring the piece of parliament to the students of Barker.

"This program helps students understand the significance of the Australian flag without needing to travel to Canberra," he said.

"The Australian flag is a powerful reminder of who we are as a nation and the values we share."

By bringing the flag to Barker, students were able to connect the flag with the importance of democracy and the role they would play in the future, he said.

"I hope this visit inspires pride for the young people involved to carry forward," he said.

The APH flag roadshow is an initiative of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Milton Dick.

It aims to promote the significance of the Australian national flag as a symbol of Australian democracy.
