I am a YES voter and would sincerely like the Referendum to pass in the affirmative. It IS time for First Nations people to be recognised and be more able to influence the direction of their lives.

If the NO vote wins then I believe it is a win for misinformation and the type of politics that seems to beset the USA currently and look how much of a mess they are in. You're right Stevie Sumner, the slogan "If you don't know, vote no" is as dumb as it gets, but it seems to be cutting through as it allows voters to be lazy with their research and understanding of the situation. The two local politicians should hang their head in shame over their support of the No vote, particularly Tony Pasin who has promoted this lazy, cynical slogan. Isn't it their job to inform their constituents of the facts instead of choosing to play politics with such an important decision and only promote one side of the debate. Party politics is such an ugly thing! But what do you expect from ultra conservative politicians who have no social justice running through their veins, just vested interest, money and power. I hope I live to see the day when this electorate becomes a swinging seat, both federally and state.

Anyway, that's my rant for which I believe is a ingrained malaise that cements the status quo and the will not improve or change the lives of aboriginal people greatly. And you can lump climate change in with this too.

Yes, I am a privileged white person, but one who strongly believes in social justice for all and who wants to live in a country that is free and fair to ALL (including No voters)! It saddens me that this issue has been very divisive and has even changed the dynamics within my own family. The referendum question is a simple proposition but the debate has been hijacked by deliberate misinformation spreaders who fear their power base could be eroded by uppity aborigines winning recognition for themselves in the Constitution. Poor dears. If they spent as much effort into doing good for this country, then we will all be better off.
