Things to do in Murray Bridge: January 29-February 4, 2021
The 2021 Murray Bridge Rowing Regatta will go ahead, but without spectators. Thankfully there will be other ways to keep busy this week.
COVID is the gift that just keeps on giving.
Its latest blessing: an announcement from Rowing SA that this Saturday’s Murray Bridge Rowing Regatta will have to go ahead without spectators, in the absence of SA Health approval for a proposed COVID management plan.
“Spectators will be excluded from attending the event,” regatta operations officer Bec Lannan said on Rowing SA’s website yesterday.
“The uncertain timeline over a decision from SA Health ... was the main factor in this decision.”
It had got to the point where it would be difficult to put up fences around the event on such short notice, Ms Lannan said.
Murray Bridge Rowing Club’s annual race day is a big event in any year, but will have extra significance in 2021 as the first to make use of the new regional rowing centre which was just recently finished at Sturt Reserve.
Athletes, coaches, support staff and volunteers will all need to wear wrist bands to access the facility.
By all means, grab a glimpse if you happen to be walking along the riverfront on Saturday – but unfortunately, that’s as close as you might get this time around.
Let’s hope things are back to normal next year.
