Sturt Reserve bike park planned
Have your say about what features a dirt BMX track should have if one is in Murray Bridge.
For years, Murray Bridge’s BMXers have wanted a dirt track built to the same standard as the city’s top-notch skate park.
They might be about to get their wish.
The Murray Bridge council has engaged experts to design a track, and wants local young people to have their say about the features they’d like it to have.
It is inviting anyone who wants to put up their ideas to a workshop at the Sturt Reserve skate park between 12.30 and 2.30pm this Saturday, May 14.
Locals can also complete an online survey.
The track would be built in the south-western corner of Sturt Reserve, near the corner of Charles Sturt Drive and Jaensch Road.
The concept was pushed, and the spot chosen, by members of the city’s youth action committee.
Mayor Brenton Lewis said the council was always open to hearing from local young people about ways in which it could provide new opportunities for healthy recreational activities.
“We are listening to our young people,” he said.
“This project is a chance for them to have a real say in shaping the premier riverfront recreation precinct we are building at Sturt Reserve, to give them a voice and ensure we are catering for their needs.
“A bike park specifically for bike riders of all levels and abilities would add variety and depth to the extensive youth facilities we are developing within our region.”
He said any new track would be safe, family friendly and suitable for beginner and intermediate riders.
The survey is being done by the Trail Collective, a group which designed the Adelaide City Dirt Trails and tracks at West Lakes, Mount Compass and Clare, among others.
A second round of public consultation will follow once a design is finalised.
