Rifle club champions named

Murray Bridge Rifle Club members and partners have gathered for their annual presentation dinner, this year held at the Murray Bridge Hotel.

This year’s club champions were Robert Paech in target rifle, Adrian Conlon in F-open and Frank Marshall in F-standard.

Other season awards included the handicap winners, Paech and Conlon, whose skill was noted considering both shoot with very little handicap.

The duo also picked up wins in the long-range handicap, short-range handicap and snipers, where they were joined by Marshall again.

The less sought-after prize, the annual Magpie Award, this year went to Daniel Irvine in TR and Wayne Halliday in F-class.

Martin, Weston win on Speedway’s opening night

The opening night of Murray Bridge Speedway’s race season has been held over the weekend: the first round of the track championship, featuring wingless sprints, street stocks, modified sedans, junior sedans and formula 500s.

It was also the first event on the track’s new racing surface, which was replenished during the offseason.

With a 29-car line-up, the fight was on early in the wingless sprints category, with Tyson Martin and Blake Walsh going head to head after taking out their respective heats.

Martin took the chequers ahead of Walsh, with Jack McCarthy also navigating well through the lapped traffic to take third.
