In 2023, junior school teams – category S1 – will once again be able to race in the 24-hour Australian International Pedal Prix at Murray Bridge.

The Murray Bridge pedal prix was a highlight of the Australian HPV Super Series, series CEO Marcus Lacey said, and it was important to include junior school teams.

“The return to Murray Bridge for junior school teams is long overdue,” he said.

“By the time they get there for the 2023 event, some four years will have passed since they last raced at Sturt Reserve.”

The demanding 24-hour event at the riverside circuit of Sturt Reserve is certainly a crowd magnet.

However, in 2020 and 2021, the iconic local event was cancelled due to COVID-19.

When it returned in 2022, junior school teams weren’t included.

The exclusion was made in the interests of safety, based on the fact that junior school competitors would have had limited HPV experience, which could have been dangerous in the tough 24-hour race.

In 2023, junior school teams will be able to return to the event if certain criteria are met.

For safety, a maximum of 10 vehicles in the junior school category will be able to enter, and the choice of teams will be based on the entrants’ rankings after completing round five in Busselton, Western Australia, in August.
