Murray Bridge basketballer Alex Wilson sets her sights on Commonwealth Games glory
The NBL1 Central star will compete in the women's 3x3 competition at the 2022 games in Birmingham, United Kingdom.
The eyes of the world will fall on Birmingham, in the United Kingdom, over the next few days as the 2022 Commonwealth Games get underway – and a Murray Bridge basketballer will be therein the spotlight.
Point guard Alex Wilson was one of four women named to the Australian three-on-three basketball team a fortnight ago.
“Representing your country is the highest of highs for me – there is nothing better than that,” she said on the Basketball Australia website.
“To be in the green and gold, with ‘Australia’ emblazoned across your chest and your name on your back, is incredible.
“I cannot wait to play with my teammates and soak up the Commonwealth Games atmosphere.”
Australia will be one of eight nations competing in the women’s 3x3 competition at the games, and will play their first game against Scotland at midnight, South Australian time, on Friday.
The competition will wrap up by the small hours of next Wednesday morning.
Wilson has been playing with the Norwood Flames of National Basketball League 1 Central this season, following a WNBL career in which she won premierships with Townsville and Sydney Uni.
She was NBL1 Central women’s player of the week just a month ago, after she scored the competition’s first ever triple double – 14 points, 13 rebounds and 15 assists – against North Adelaide.
