Planning is underway for a historical exhibition commemorating 100 years of vocational education and training in Murray Bridge.

On November 7, TAFE SA’s Murray Bridge campus will hold the centenary and residents are being urged to help.

Organisers are calling on the local community to contribute relevant items including photos, newspaper clippings, course materials and special objects, to be part of the exhibition.

The event will include a community barbecue, special displays, speeches, and a time capsule opening.

TAFE SA chief executive David Coltman said VET had been a crucial part of delivering practical skills and knowledge that benefited students, employers and industry in the Murray Bridge region.

“We’re looking forward to celebrating this important milestone, recognising the contributions of many and hearing the success stories that began with a VET course,” Mr Coltman said.

“The centenary of VET planning group would love to hear from former students, employers, teachers and other staff who may want to share a story or memento relating to their involvement in VET.”

If you’ve ever learnt a new skill, been apart of short course or gained a qualification through VET you may have something to offer.

Murray Bridge Mayor Wayne Thorley said VET had played a significant role in the community.

“VET has equipped local people with an array of skills to enable them to participate in the workforce, from manufacturing and building trades to health care and much more,” he said.

“It’s also given local people the chance to share their skills and knowledge with the next generation as an instructor or guest speaker.”

A campus open day will be held in conjunction with the celebration.

Items for the exhibition are needed by July 31.
