With the annual Tailem Bend Christmas Parade having been cancelled, committee members have spent months discussing contingency plans to ensure the festive feel is maintained within the town and surrounding districts.

We are planning a special night for Tailem Bend on December 12.

We want everyone to dress up and picnic in their front yards; and for anyone out of town to come along, adopt a Tailem Bend family or picnic in the park and wait for our special treat.

We also have a couple of competitions this year, with judging starting on November 28 and the winners to be announced on December 12.

These competitions can still go ahead regardless of COVID restrictions and will certainly lift the spirits of many.

We are hoping you go ahead with lighting up your homes and staging your favourite Christmas character in your front yards.

There are three prizes for both categories: $150, $100 and $50 Visa debit cards that you can use as you wish, a wonderful addition to your Christmas budget simply by bringing joy to others.

To all children of the Coorong community, we now know that our favourite jolly old man in red is tech-savvy and has a special message for you all that was delivered on November 20.

You can find this message at www.facebook.com/TailemBendChristmasParade.

Don’t forget to get your letter to him.

Even though you won’t get to sit on his lap this year to tell him what your wish is for Christmas, the elves have told me he still wants to hear from you and maybe, if you get your letter to him, you might just hear back.

Santa has a special letter box at the Tailem Bend Post Office.

And keep an eye out for a couple of Santa’s naughty elves, Mischief and Mayhem.

They’ve disappeared from the North Pole and may be headed your way.

We have also been warned the Christmas Grinch may be around the district trying to steal our Christmas – we hope not.

Watch the Tailem Bend Christmas Parade Facebook page to see what they all get up to over the next couple of weeks.
