Diesel theft is on the rise around the Murraylands and Mallee at the moment, SA Police warn.

Properties at Mypolonga and Wynarka were targeted by fuel thieves last Monday and Tuesday.

Diesel had previously been reported stolen from farms at Karoonda and Walker Flat back in January.

Police are not sure if the thefts are linked.

However, they warned anyone with diesel or petrol stored on their properties to take steps to secure it:

Position fuel tanks and trailers in sight of the house and away from roads

  • Install security lighting and/or a lockable fence
  • Monitor and recording fuel levels daily
  • Lock fuel dispensers and caps when not in use
  • Fill mobile tanks only when they are needed

An investigation into the recent thefts is continuing.
