The people have spoken: Monarto Safari Park is South Australia’s most popular tourist destination.

More than 20,000 votes were cast in the lead-up to Saturday night’s South Australian Tourism Awards.

When they were counted, the safari park came out on top as the state’s favourite tourist experience or service for the third year running.

Better still, award judges also named it SA’s best major tourist attraction, beating Adelaide Oval.

It was named runner-up in the accessible tourism category, recognising its commitment to catering to visitors of all abilities.

Chief executive Elaine Bensted said she was thrilled that park operators Zoos SA had won fresh recognition for their work to save animal species from extinction.

“It means a lot when our members and visitors think we’re the best,” she said.

“As a conservation charity, our important conservation work is made possible by members and visitors and we are so grateful for their continued support.”

The safari park had previously won the voter’s choice award in 2021 and 2022.

Murray Bridge’s Bridgeport Hotel was named a runner-up in the deluxe accommodation category this year, beaten only by Middleton’s Beach Huts.

Tailem Bend’s Big 4 Holiday Park and Rydges Pit Lane Hotel were also nominated for awards.
