A new recycling hub has been introduced at Murray Bridge Library to promote environmental sustainability and reduce landfill waste.
The hub gives locals a place to recycle various items with hazardous or high impacts in landfills.
This includes items such as small electronic devices, power cords, mobile phones, batteries, and X-rays.
Community members can visit the library and drop off specific items in designated boxes during opening hours.
The project was a collaborative effort between the Adelaide Hills Regional Waste Management Authority, the Murray Bridge Rotary Club and the Rural City of Murray Bridge.
Mayor Wayne Thorley said that the collaboration had been invaluable.
“When it comes to the environment, we all have to do our part,” he said.
The library was well on its way to becoming a hub and it was great that people could come and access different parts of the community.
“From bringing this initiative to Murray Bridge, through to maintaining the hub, I want to thank everyone involved in this project,” he said.
General manager for infrastructure and environment Thuyen Vi-Alternetti encouraged the community to use the hub rather than throwing things into general rubbish.
“By doing so, the community can significantly contribute to reducing landfill waste and promoting recycling efforts,” she said.
The library is open from 9.30am to 6pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday; 8pm on Thursday; 1pm on Saturday; and from 1-4pm on Sundays.
