New playground opens at Mary Ann Reserve
The space on Mannum's riverfront features a paddle boat, trampolines, nature play elements and more.
A climbable paddle steamer is the centrepiece of a new playground which has just opened on Mannum’s riverfront.
The paddleboat, also called Mannum, features a net ladder, rock climbing frame, slide and lookout.
Around it are trampolines, swings, a sand pit with a digger and nature play elements such as logs and rocks.
The Mid Murray council raced to finish the playground at Mary Ann Reserve in time for the current spell of warm weather.
Mayor Dave Burgess hoped it would encourage more visitors to learn about Mannum’s river history – and to stay and spend their money in town.
“Council has recognised the increasing tourism potential of Mary Ann Reserve and our wider district,” he said.
“Projects such as these create vibrant new offerings that inspire people to discover the Mid Murray.
“We hope it will encourage families to explore Mannum further and learn more about our past, and perhaps even inspire them to step aboard one of our real paddle boats.”
He predicted it would get plenty of use during the upcoming school holidays, which will start on September 26.
Shade sails will be installed above the new playground – and eight picnic tables and two benches nearby – over the next few months.
Another new playground at Tailem Bend’s Railway Terrace reserve is now open, too.
