The Tailem Bend Country Fire Service (CFS) welcomed its new captain, Dylan
Collett, during the brigade’s annual open day on Sunday, August 31.

The event once again drew strong community support.

Mr Collett, who has been with the Tailem Bend brigade for five years, said he was
honoured to be elected captain and grateful for the confidence shown by his fellow
volunteers.

“I was quite shocked to receive it, but it was really good to see that the brigade rallied behind it and voted me in,” he said.

“The best thing about the CFS is the family you gain.

"You create one big friendship group that looks out for each other.”

The open day gave residents a chance to learn more about the work of the CFS,
from responding to road crashes and house fires to assisting the SES at incidents
across the region.

Visitors also saw firsthand the extensive training opportunities available for volunteers, ranging from basic firefighting through to road crash rescue, breathing apparatus, hazardous materials, communications and leadership roles.

Mr Collett stressed that the brigade is always looking for new members.

“Any help’s good help – whether you’re available during the day, at night or just weekends.

"It doesn’t cost anything except your time, and once you’re in, your part of the family.”

The successful day highlighted the dedication of local volunteers and
reinforced the vital role the Tailem Bend CFS plays in protecting the community.
