Mypolonga olive oil producer wins at the Royal Adelaide Show
Rio Vista’s Koroneiki has been named the best extra virgin olive oil in South Australia.

High fives are due to Mypolonga’s Rio Vista Olives, who have taken out several awards at this year’s Royal Adelaide Show, including the prestigious best extra virgin olive oil.
The single variety Koroneiki was named South Australia’s best extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) at the Royal Adelaide Olive Awards over the weekend, cementing the family-owned grove’s reputation as one of the nation’s most premium producers.
“This year has still been a difficult year for many growers, because of the drought,” manager Leon Bettio said.
“We are so proud of our team for always pushing through and working hard to produce the best product we can despite environmental factors.”
The Koroneiki olive is a hugely popular Greek olive variety and one of the smallest under cultivation in South Australia – small but mighty, just like the community where Rio Vista is based.
The company’s other honours included:
- Best medium EVOO in show
- Best single-variety EVOO in show
- A silver and two bronze medals
“When you are a small business, the people are so important and it’s an honour to receive these types of awards because it’s a win for everyone,” Mr Bettio said.
The Royal Adelaide Olive Awards are regarded as one of Australia’s most respected olive oil competitions, attracting entries from across the country.
Skilled judges look for balance, aroma, flavour complexity and overall excellence.
