Bryan McDonald has been announced as the new general manager of the Murraylands and Riverland Landscape Board.

The board is responsible for managing the River Murray, the wetlands and the surrounding environment, working with First Nations people and local communities to preserve natural landscapes.

Prior to his appointment, Mr McDonald was the executive director of fisheries with the New South Wales Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development.

He has worked in the public sector across South Australia, New South Wales and the Northern Territory for more than 25 years, leading programs in natural resources management, biosecurity, fisheries and community engagement.

“I am honoured to join the Murraylands and Riverland Landscape Board,” he said.

“This region is incredibly important, both environmentally and socially, and I look forward to working closely with the community, First Nations, and our many partners to strengthen the resilience of our landscapes and livelihoods.”

Chair of the board Frances Simes said the appointment came at an important time, with a review of the board’s 2021-26 landscape plan approaching.

“The review of the regional landscape plan is a major milestone that will guide our priorities for the next five years,” she said.

“Bryan’s skills in program delivery and community partnerships will be vital to shaping a plan that reflects the needs of our region and our communities.”

Mr McDonald takes over from predecessor Andrew Meddle, who is now the chief executive officer of the Kempsey Shire Council in NSW.
