Community theatre group Murray Bridge Players and Singers have launched a campaign to secure funding for the redevelopment of their premises on Short Street.

President Benjamin Gallasch said a loan of $100,000 from the Rural City of Murray Bridge could be used as a co-contribution for other grant applications that could help the the $570,000 project go ahead.

“We are incredibly grateful to the council for this boost in funding which has kicked off what we hope will be a successful campaign to gain financial support from other levels of government,” said Mr Gallasch.

The Murray Bridge Players and Singers are a volunteer-led, not-for-profit community group with a passion for performing arts.

In recent years the organisation has staged several sell-out productions, including the musicals Legally Blonde, Mamma Mia, Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, Wicked, Chicago and several cabarets.

“While our membership is strong and continues to grow, our facility is not living up to the modern standards expected for performing arts,” Mr Gallasch said.

The redevelopment will provide modern facilities, including:

  • Accessible toilets
  • A professional sprung dance floor
  • New rehearsal rooms
  • Kitchenette
  • A state-of-the-art sound and video system

“The Murray Bridge Players and Singers want to see a thriving performing arts community here in the Murraylands for generations to come," Mr Gallasch said.

"With council support under our belt, we are now asking the community to help us advocate to our local members of parliament for a financial contribution from state or federal government to see the project progress.”

The organisation is asking residents to email local members of parliament showing their support of them receiving grant funding.

Think of your favourite memories of Players and Singers, or why they deserve grant funding.
