A 79-year-old Murray Bridge man has died in a suspected drowning at Aldinga Beach.

The man was pulled unconscious from the water just before 3pm on Tuesday.

Emergency services were called and CPR was performed on the man, but he could not be revived.

Police will prepare a report for the coroner.

Meanwhile, firefighters have extinguished a fire which broke out west of Tailem Bend on Saturday evening.

Thirty firefighters from eight crews, supported by water-bombing aircraft, were needed to control the blaze.

An area along the Princes Highway, near Jaensch Road, was burnt.

Watch out for speed cameras near Tailem Bend

Motorists passing through Tailem Bend this week should be aware that SA Police may be operating speed cameras in the area.

Police warned that they would be active on the Dukes Highway and Princes Highway, as well as further down the Dukes and at Meningie.

Penalties for speeding start at $180 and two demerit points.

Motorists fall afoul of traffic police

Finally, police have picked up two local motorists over the past fortnight:

  • A 36-year-old Balhannah woman driving a Toyota Kluger allegedly returned a positive drug test on Mary Terrace, Murray Bridge just before 3.30pm on March 1; her licence was suspended for three months
  • A 53-year-old Murray Bridge man allegedly refused to answer questions or submit to a breath test after being spotted on Adelaide Road at 4pm on Friday; he was reported, lost his vehicle for 28 days and his licence for 12 months
