Murray Bridge High School principal Ruth Mussger retires
Several long-serving school leaders have announced their retirement at the end of 2024, including principal Ruth Mussger.
Murray Bridge High School will head into 2025 with new hands on the wheel after the retirement of several senior staff members.
Ruth Mussger, named SA’s best high school principal three years ago, will depart after 18 years – and she won’t be the only one.
Also headed into retirement are pioneering inclusive education leader Christine Roberts-Yates, after 21 years; Jeff McKeown, after 26; and jack-of-all-trades assistant principal Roxanne Rowland, after an astonishing 51 years at the same school.
Ms Mussger said she was particularly proud of the school’s recent rebranding, the construction of its $20 million Sturt Building, and the efforts her team had made to support students’ wellbeing through the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Being a teacher has been such a special privilege,” she said in the school’s last newsletter for the year.
“Seeing students go on to happy, meaningful and fulfilling lives after school is the biggest compliment anyone can get.
“Though my time at Murray Bridge High School comes to an end, the lessons learned and relationships built will stay with me forever.”
Ms Mussger will join her sister, former Mypolonga Primary School principal Rita O’Brien, in retirement.
Deputy principal Paula Hahesy will slide into the big chair at MBHS for 2025.
As far as Murray Bridge News is aware, no other local schools will have new principals starting in term one next year.
