Murray Bridge council has welcomed senior representatives from Dezhou City and the Dezhou Foreign Affairs Office on July 1.

This comes a month after Murray Bridge council members and business representatives paid a visit to Shandong Province.

The visit culminated in the signing of a Friendship Cities Relationship Agreement, in order to strengthen ties and foster mutual growth between the two regions.

The agreement does not impose financial obligations on the Council, but formalises a shared commitment to partnership and mutual prosperity.

At the official signing, Mayor Wayne Thorley said: " We are a proud city and the protein capital of South Australia."

"We look forward to ongoing relations, formalised today through the signing of a Friendship Cities Agreement.”

“Friendship between cities builds partnerships between economies.”

The objective is to foster economic cooperation by sharing knowledge and expertise, and encouraging business and trade opportunities that contribute to the sustainable growth of both cities.

Key areas of collaboration outlined in the agreement include:

  • Economic and trade collaboration: Facilitating trade and investment between businesses, fostering partnerships and supporting entrepreneurial initiatives.
  • Innovation and technology: Encouraging joint work in smart city development, digital transformation and technology-driven industries.
  • Sustainable development: Sharing best practices in urban planning, environmental sustainability and green energy.
  • Tourism development: Promoting tourism exchanges, joint marketing efforts, and cultural events that highlight the unique qualities of each city.
