Motorcycle Riders’ Toy Run to Callington returns to original route
The end of COVID restrictions allowed SA’s famous Toy Run charity motorcycle ride to return to its original format and route on Sunday.
Sunday has marked the 44th Motorcycle Riders Association of SA Toy Run, in which the community donated gifts and money to families in need at Christmas.
The St Vincent de Paul Society distributed the toys, and motorcyclists transported the toys on their bikes from Adelaide to Callington.
The big cheese himself, Santa Claus, led the ride.
The toy and motorcycle parade travelled from Victoria Park through Hutt Street to Glen Osmond Road and the South Eastern Freeway.
The state government helped make the toy run possible and safe.
Police, Emergency Services and Correctional Services Minister Jo Szakacs described it as a “wonderful, enduring event that supports those in need at Christmas”.
Motorcyclist Mick Peake has been doing the toy run on his beloved Ducati for the past 22 years.
“I used to donate toys to the kids, but now I donate cash, as there are only so many stuffed toys you need in the world,” he said.
“I love motorcycles, but it’s also a good fun day, a public exhibition, and it raises money for a great charity, St Vincent de Paul.”
