Murray Bridge’s missing X Lotto winner found
The winner of a $586,000 jackpot has revealed the reason she could not collect her prize for almost two weeks.
An overseas trip was the reason a Murray Bridge lottery winner remained unidentified for almost two weeks, promoters have revealed.
A local woman was among 11 division one winners of a X Lotto draw on February 28, each of whom took home almost $586,000.
But at the moment she received word of the life-changing win, she was rushing to Adelaide Airport to catch a plane.
“As I was running out the door, I quickly listened to the messages on the answering machine,” she said.
“I wasn’t sure if it was real or not, but I was stunned.
“I was sitting on the plane going, ‘I can’t believe this.’
“I started to see they were frantically looking for the winner – I saw it on Facebook and even the news.
“I was thinking, ‘It’s me,’ but I wasn’t sure what to do because I was overseas.”
The woman, who wished to remain anonymous, said she had played the same set of numbers for decades, having inherited them from her late mother more than 30 years ago.
Those numbers were 21, 13, 44, 31, seven and 35.
Having them come up for a win was very special, she said: “It feels like she’s shining down on me.”
She planned to spend her winnings on some more travel, helping people and enjoying the rest of her life.
The winning ticket was sold at the Drakes supermarket in Murray Bridge.
Manager Randall Meyers said he and his team had been delighted to find out one of their customers was a winner.
It was the first time a division one-winning ticket had been sold at the store since it opened in 2019, he said.
