Life Through the Lens: It's about seasons
Kevin Schrapel reflects on Pete Seeger, and a paddock he passes every day.
This post was contributed by Kevin Schrapel.

Over the past months Ruth and I have passed this town paddock many time.
First there was just brown, worked-over earth.
After a time, little green shoots stuck their heads up and you could almost hear them shout to each other, āHey, there is sunlight and warmth up here!ā
And so, with the sunlight and the correct seasonal rains, the mini shoots grew and reached ever upwards towards that sun.
Now, in this season, they stand tall, golden and waving in the late afternoon sun, waiting for the next season, where they will fulfil their destiny to nurture someone and another season will start.
In 1959 songwriter Pete Seeger wrote a hit song: āTo everything (turn, turn, turn) there is a season (turn, turn, turn) and a time to every purpose under heavenā.
You can find it on Spotify or YouTube.
Many, many years before Pete ā about 3000 ā a king, Solomon, wrote, āto everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die,ā et cetera, et cetera.
Check him out in Ecclesiastes chapter three, verses one to eight in the Bible.
No, Solomon is not on Spotify.
What of the seasons in your life ā how do you see them?
As times of blessing to be savoured with the hope that āthis seasonā will never end?
What of the season when everything seems to be turning to rubbish?
Busted relationships, ill health, travel plans shot to pieces, no-one caring, when you feel like your life ⦠well, you fill in the blank.
It is during those seasons that we could learn from that miniscule leaf pushing upward and discovering āhey, there is warmth up hereā.
That is when it is good to take on board the warmth of love God offers.
He doesnāt promise to fix every problem the way we might want, but he does promise:
āDonāt panic, Iām with you. Thereās no need to fear, for Iām your God. Iāll give you strength. Iāll help you. Iāll hold you steady, keep a firm grip on you.ā
Donāt think heās interested in you?
Try talking to him and listen ā with your heart.
You might get a surprise.
God bless.
