For quite some time, dedicated twice-a-week competition golfer Mark Lewis has been questioning his golf ability.

It just hasn’t been happening, when a while ago it was.

Well, he did something to turn it all around on the weekend when he jolted himself back into form and scored a massive 43 points to clear out from the rest of the field to win comfortably.

Just what he did remains a mystery, though.

Was it just the vagaries of playing golf, a lucky day out, or maybe a higher power looking down from above and saying “it’s your turn”?

Let’s see what happens next time out, but in the meantime, Lewis can enjoy all the praise for good golf.

The day’s field was reduced to just 56 players, with the weather forecast no doubt scaring plenty away, but the rain stayed away until the evening and it instead turned out a beautiful spring day for golf.

Class A-grader Matt Kowald certainly enjoyed it after being plagued with putting lip-outs in his past two rounds.

He found no such issues this time as he rattled up a superb 41 points to be the day’s runner-up in a skilful display off his seven handicap.

And yes, another one of the Poharama boys was up there again as Mikara, riding a fine wave of recent form, claimed third place with an impressive 40-point round.

Gee, even old warhorse “Super” Sid Robbins put his aches and pains to one side to chalk up a quality 39 points and wind back the clock somewhat.

Nearly all of the NTPs were snapped up by the A-graders but upmarket city slicker Johnny Hadden kept them all out on the 11th, where he nearly aced it with a delightful tee shot.

Former single-figure Glenelg Golf Club handicapper Terry Marsh thought it was time he silenced his critics and his supreme 22-point back nine did just that, winning him the day’s pro comp on a count back from four other players.

This weekend the two-day Murray Bridge Open will be played, with normal Saturday competition golf resuming in a fortnight.
