Kanmantoo man killed in road accident
A motorcyclist has died in a collision on the Old Princes Highway on the first day of Road Safety Week.
A 39-year-old Kanmantoo man has died in a road accident just south of the town on Monday morning.
The man’s motorbike collided with a Ford ute at the intersection of the Old Princes Highway and Plantation Road just after 7am.
Although paramedics raced to help, he died at the scene.
The driver of the ute, a 35-year-old man, was not physically hurt.
Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information that may help police with their investigation should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or at www.crimestopperssa.com.au.
Police expected the road to remain closed for the morning while they examined the scene.
The man’s death – the 44th on South Australian roads this year – occurred on the first morning of Road Safety Week.
Twenty-five of those deaths have been on regional roads, and 11 have been motorcyclists – both figures significantly higher than last year.
Last year 87 people died on South Australian roads, and more than 2100 were injured badly enough to need medical treatment.
Every such tragedy on our roads would stay with families forever, state Police Minister Michael Brown warned.
“Reducing the lives lost and serious injuries on South Australian roads is a key priority for the (state) government,” he said.
“Road Safety Week reminds us all that our choices behind the wheel directly save lives.”
