With a burst of creativity, thanks to Jill Wilson Persello and her little companion Audrey, Tailem Bend’s old east side retail precinct is coming alive.
As the owners of the old Persello Bakery and historic retail precinct, across the railway line from Tailem’s iconic Information Station, Ms Wilson Persello and her husband Andy have embarked on a mission to revitalise the area.
She has transformed one of the shopfronts to turn it into a home for her business, Heart to Art Designs.
A passionate creator for many years, she has also almost refitted a van to take her handmade craft goods to Murraylands markets and events.
“I love making things,” she said, “but there’s only so much room in the house.”
“Selling a few pieces helps fund more supplies and gives people a chance to buy one-of-a-kind gifts locally.”
While she still worked in Murray Bridge, Ms Wilson Persello invited visitors to message her online to make a time to pop in for a chat.
“Bring your coffee and enjoy a stroll around the old precinct,” she said.
“It's wonderful seeing the historic buildings come alive again.”

The old buildings continually require work, and Ms Wilson Persello hopes her initiative will not only breathe life into the old streetscape but also boost nearby businesses, as visitors often grab a coffee or cake before or after visiting.
Small groups also continue to book private visits, a unique experience on the quieter side of town.
Looking ahead, Ms Wilson Persello hoped to keep creating and expand her passion.
“The future, who knows?” she said.
“For now, it’s about bringing joy, using the old buildings again, and making Tailem Bend’s east side a place people want to stop and explore.”
