Writing compelling grant applications was the focus for the latest Women in Business Regional Network lunch, held at the newly renovated Bridgeport Hotel.

The guest speaker was Paula Dickson from Lined Up Ducks.

Network founder Carolyn Jeffrey said that with so much money on offer for not only not-for-profits, but also small businesses, it was important that women were equipped to make the most of the opportunities.

“Paula provided some great tips on grant writing, including a simple step-by-step process to ensure we delivered a clear message to a potential funder,” she said.

“Her experience working for a grant provider, as well as running a business that assists organisations write grants, created great insights into the process and the need to be concise and direct, be aware of the funder’s intentions and policies with the grant, and to also be genuine in any partnerships or projects being proposed.”

Ms Jeffrey said businesses throughout the network had recently benefited from the state government’s SME Business Advisory Program and a number of drought and bushfire recovery grants.

“Women have a tendency to play down their need for assistance and worthiness, so as a network I’m keen to see that philosophy changed and to see more regional women in business get a share of the funding pie, which can only be a good thing for their local communities too,” she said.

The next Murray Bridge event will be a lunch on Monday, September 6 when Helen Sampson of Jagged Crow Creative will provide tips on how to use Google tools to improve digital marketing.

The Women in Business Regional Network is open to business owners, managers, staff and those dreaming of owning their own business.

You don’t have to be a member to attend events, but bookings are essential via eventbrite.com.au.
