Headspace Murray Bridge invites locals to participate in the Push-Up Challenge
You, too can support mental health by completing 3307 push-ups this June.
Have you got what it takes to do 3307 push-ups over 24 days for an important cause?
That’s what Headspace Murray Bridge is asking locals to do this June to remember and honour the 3307 Australians who lose their lives to suicide each year.
More than 220,000 people around the nation are expected to take part in this year’s Push-Up Challenge, with the aim of educating people about mental health and fostering their physical and mental wellbeing.
“Pushuperers” can also choose to raise funds for mental health services including Headspace, Lifeline and the Push for Better Foundation.
That was important at a time when demand for Headspace’s services among local young people was growing, said Cathy Spanton, CEO of the local centre.
“Initiatives like the Push-Up Challenge allow us to respond in practical, visible ways: raising awareness, strengthening community connection, and supporting timely access to local care,” she said.
“Our community has shown consistent support for the Push-Up Challenge in recent years, and we’ve seen the impact it can have in opening up conversations around mental health.
“This year, we’re building on that foundation, engaging more people, deepening local partnerships, and continuing to invest in the wellbeing of young people across Murray Bridge.”
The challenge gave people a great opportunity talk about their mental health, learn how to support each other and recognise when they needed to put their own hands up for help, said Headspace’s Nina D’Alton.
The challenge will run from June 3-26.
Participants can register as individuals or teams, including as a workplace, club, gym or school.
Those who feel unable to do 3307 push-ups can opt to do half that number or sub in sit-ups, squats or other exercises.
