Free dispenser at Murray Bridge Library will help women in need
National charity Share the Dignity will make sanitary products – tampons and pads – available to anyone who needs them.
Every woman deserves dignity – and a new vending machine at Murray Bridge Library will ensure every local woman can get it.
The machine, located in the library’s parents’ room, will make free menstrual products available to anyone who needs them.
Each of the “pink packs” in the machine contains six tampons and two pads.
The initiative is intended to give everyone in the community access to period products, regardless of their financial or personal circumstances.
Murray Bridge council CEO Heather Barclay said menstrual health was an important health and human rights issue.
“This vending machine at our library is more than just a convenience; it’s a statement that our public library is a welcoming, safe space that is inclusive and that provides many types of services and support,” she said.
“We know that unmet menstrual health needs can impact the health, safety and wellbeing of individuals.
“This vending machine will go a long way to help empower and alleviate some of the challenges that many people in our community may face.”
The machine was purchased thanks to a fundraising effort by the Women’s National Basketball Association and its major sponsors, Cygnett, during its inaugural Fighting Period Poverty Round last year.
Anyone looking to access the vending machine can visit Murray Bridge Library from 9.30am to 6pm on weekdays, or until 8pm on Thursdays; 9.30am-1pm on Saturdays; and 1-4pm on Sundays.
