Superintendent Scott Denny has been named the winner of this year’s Jim Hullick Award for his work in strengthening partnerships between the Riverland and Murraylands councils during the recent floods.

The award, from the Local Government Association of South Australia (LGA SA), honours state and federal public servants who have shown extraordinary commitment to collaborating with local councils to help people across the state.

Superintendent Denny, formerly the local service area commander for the Murray Mallee, established strong relationships between emergency services, community groups and government during his time working in the region.

LGA SA CEO Clinton Jury praised Superintendent Denny’s proactive approach to helping to activate the zone emergency team for the River Murray flood event and enabling stakeholders to work together.

“While in the Murray Mallee, Scott went over and above the call of duty to attend forums with stakeholders on a range of community issues, including those outside of emergencies,” Mr Jury said.

Superintendent Denny said that although he didn’t do his job for recognition, he was proud and honoured to win the award.

“It’s only through collaboration between local and state government and other stakeholders that we can continue developing our regional communities and improve the services available to residents and visitors in rural and remote parts of our state,” he said.

Superintendent Denny moved to one of SA Police’s metropolitan districts in the middle of this year, and was succeeded locally by Superintendent Cindy Healey.
