Father Christmas has returned to Tailem Bend – and wasn’t he popular?
Perhaps 1000 people or more lined Railway Terrace on Saturday evening to watch the town’s Christmas parade.
The event returned to its usual format this year, with stalls in the Willow Street precinct and visits to the big man’s wonderland in the back of the town hall.
More than 40 floats processed down the main street, including dinosaurs, footballers and a wind-up car, with Coorong Mayor Paul Simmons at the head of the column and Santa and his six white boomers bringing up the rear.
Organising committee member Maxine Kiddie said she was ecstatic about how the evening had gone.
“Who could wish for a better night?” she asked.
“The weather, the colours, the people, the floats looked excellent, the stalls were excellent, the music … you got grandparents there, aunts and uncles and kids; it was that old-fashioned parade.
“The town just rocked.”
She encouraged more locals to think about volunteering to help out next year.
