Family fun day planned at Wellington East Reserve
An upgrade of the park by the boat ramp is finished – it's time to come and celebrate.
A family fun day will be held at Wellington East next week to celebrate the completion of the fast-growing community’s new picnic spot.
A $455,000 revamp of Wellington East Reserve was completed a couple of months ago, one which added public toilets, a pontoon, barbecue facilities, a shelter and landscaping to what had been a relatively bare patch beside the boat ramp.
Next Friday, October 7, from 11am-3pm, local families are invited to come and check it out, if they haven’t already.
Federal MP Tony Pasin and Coorong Mayor Paul Simmons will officially declare the place open.
There will be a free barbecue lunch, come-and-try kayaking sessions, marine safety officers to remind everyone about water safety and landscape board representatives to explain a bit about the ecology of the area.
“This project has transformed the reserve into a fresh, exciting recreation and play space for residents and visitors to enjoy,” Cr Simmons said.
“Wellington East is fast becoming one of the region’s most desirable locations for living, offering a picturesque, laid-back lifestyle.”
Mr Pasin hoped the works would encourage visitors to come to Wellington East and stay a little longer.
The revamp was funded through the federal Murray-Darling Basin Economic Development Program.
A long-term council plan for the reserve calls for a nature play space or loop trail to be built there in future.
