Murray Bridge police will host a public forum about the impacts of drug use in the community, and the available support services, later this month.

Speaking at the forum will be Detective Chief Inspector Mark Hubbard from the SA Police drug and organised crime task force, Dr Victoria Cook and Dr Bronwyn Gordon from Drug and Alcohol Services South Australia, and a community member who will discuss her prior experience with drug addiction.

Murray Bridge, like many other communities around Australia, has had serious problems with illicit drug use in the community.

Methamphetamines and cannabis, along with alcohol, are the drugs that cause the most problems locally, according to local service provider iReach.

Around one in 30 Australians are affected by alcohol and other drug dependence, according to the Alcohol and Drug Foundation.

The forum provides an opportunity for the community to hear about the difficulties and dangers of addiction and ask questions.

Members of the community are invited to attend the forum at the Unity College Steeple on Owl Drive, Murray Bridge from 6-8pm on Wednesday, October 29.

Doors will open at 5.30pm.

Murray Bridge News will attend, and will live stream the forum on Facebook for those unable to attend.
