If you’re interested in disaster preparedness – or just want to see a really, really big map of our region – you’re invited to one of two community workshops in the Murraylands next week.

Disaster Relief Australia will host two Big Map events: at the Bridges Event Centre, at Gifford Hill, from 10am-2pm on Saturday; and Mannum Leisure Centre at the same times on Sunday.

It’s exactly what it sounds like: a giant map of the Murraylands will be laid out on the floor to give locals, and authorities, a better idea about the challenges different types of disasters may bring.

The idea was inspired by an approach to military planning intended to stimulate innovative thought.

The events have been funded by the state and federal governments and the Minyeroo Foundation.

Any community members may attend, whether their area of expertise is people, the economy, the environment, construction, infrastructure or none of those.
