Tailem Bend Town Hall has come alive on Saturday as the Murraylands Ballroom Dancing Winter Ball brought together dancers from across the region for an evening of music, movement, and community spirit.

The hall sparkled with sequins, polished shoes, and elegant attire as dancers young and old took to the floor in celebration of one of the region’s most cherished social traditions.

Nick Lazaroff, of Jervois, explained that in spite of changing times, ballroom dancing continued to thrive in the Murraylands.

“It offers more than just graceful steps and flowing music,” he said.

“It’s a powerful way to connect people, promote physical activity, and strengthen community ties.”

The winter ball was a clear example of this, with smiles, laughter, and lively conversation filling the room.

Capturing the magic of the night were some members of the Murray Bridge Library Community Photography Group, who set up a photo booth to document the occasion.

With cameras flashing and dancers pausing for portraits between waltzes and foxtrots, the group helped preserve the joy of the evening and highlighted the beauty of community-driven arts.

Looking ahead, the Murraylands Ballroom Dancers, in collaboration with Genuine Support Services Australia, are planning a free all-inclusive Spring Ball at Old Tailem Town Pioneer Village.

The session will be held in the Pioneer Hall at a date to be advised.

It will include old-time music and will welcome participants of all ages and abilities, creating a supportive space for anyone wanting to learn the basics or rediscover the joy of dancing.

In a world that moves fast, events like this remind us of the value of slowing down, stepping in time, and sharing the dance floor together.
