Crime Stoppers launches campaign targeting Murray Bridge, leaving criminals nowhere to hide
Through this initiative, locals can inform police what they know about criminal activity without putting themselves at risk or getting involved.
“Eyes are watching, ears are listening, and Crime Stoppers is just a phone call or online click away.”
This is what Crime Stoppers SA CEO Nigel Smart says he wants people to remember when they consider engaging in illegal activity.
A new campaign in the Murraylands will enable locals to speak up without the need to say who they are, make a formal statement to police, or get involved in any later court proceedings.
“Criminals often carry out their illegal activities in full view because they believe they can frighten and intimidate others into staying silent,” Mr Smart said.
“Perhaps something doesn’t seem quite right in your neighbourhood.
“Maybe you’ve overheard or know something about property damage, theft, drug dealing or some other illegal activity.
“If it is enough to be of concern to you, then Crime Stoppers wants to know what you know, because we share your information with police on your behalf without you needing to get involved.”
Superintendent Scott Denny said locals reporting suspected crime was fundamental in helping police protect the community.
“Working together with our local community assists greatly in being able to prevent, detect and investigate crime,” he said.
The local campaign follows a similar initiative in Whyalla earlier this year, which saw more than 40 tips provided to Crime Stoppers by the local community.
As a result, several people were arrested and charged with drug trafficking, and more than a third of the tips remain active investigations.
Anyone with information about criminals or suspicious activity can call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a tip at crimestopperssa.com.au.
