The Coorong council has appointed a new chief executive officer.

Scott Reardon will start work at the council “in the coming months” after finishing up in the same role with the neighbouring Karoonda East Murray council.

His previous experience includes management roles with the Walkerville and Holdfast Bay councils in Adelaide, plus a six-month stint as acting CEO up in Coober Pedy.

Mr Reardon said he was excited about contributing to a region with opportunities for growth and development, and looked forward to working closely with councillors, staff, residents and business owners.

“I am a people-focused leader and believe the best outcomes are achieved through engagement and collaboration,” he said.

“By listening to our communities and fostering strong partnerships, I see opportunity to build on the district’s many strengths, create opportunities for sustainable growth, and ensure council continues to deliver outcomes that matter to the community.”

Acting Mayor Jonathan Pietzsch said he was delighted with the appointment.

“Scott stood out through his demonstrated leadership, strategic vision and commitment to delivering positive outcomes for our community,” he said.

“We are confident that Scott will work ... to build on the many strengths of our district, while recognising the unique challenges that face our rural communities.”

Karoonda East Murray Mayor Caroline Phillips expressed disappointment at Mr Reardon’s decision to leave, but gratitude for his leadership, professionalism and commitment.

Mr Reardon will succeed Bridget Mather, who resigned from the Coorong council’s top job in January.

Council corporate director Myles Somers had filled the role on a temporary basis for the past seven months.
