A public meeting will be held at Tailem Bend next Tuesday as the Coorong council seeks feedback on its draft budget for 2026-27.

The council is proposing to increase its property rates by 6.6 per cent, or $140 for an average homeowner.

In return, the community would get:

  • Almost $6.9 million worth of infrastructure upgrades
  • Projects including planning for growth at Wellington East
  • Continuation of the council’s “mostly sustainablefinancial position

Acting Mayor Jonathan Pietzsch said the draft plan would allow the council to maintain services and renewing infrastructure while being mindful of cost-of-living pressures.

“This draft annual business plan is about focusing on our core responsibilities while ensuring we remain financially sustainable,” Cr Pietzsch said.

“We have deliberately prioritised asset renewal, particularly roads and infrastructure, while being mindful of the economic challenges facing our community.”

Community members have until 5pm next Friday, May 29, to have their say.

Feedback will be considered by councillors at a meeting in June, and the plan may be amended between then and another meeting on July 7, when it will be adopted.
