Fire danger season will start this Saturday, CFS declares
The Country Fire Service has announced the beginning of fire danger season for the Murraylands, starting November 1.
Murraylands residents are being urged to prepare their homes and properties, as the South Australian Country Fire Service has announced the start of the fire danger season.
Much like the rest of the state, the Murraylands' fire danger season will be in effect from this Saturday, November 1, to April 30, 2026.
A permit will be required for most burning activities during the season or on days where a total fire ban is declared.
CFS community risk and resilience director Alison May said it was important for to prepare homes, businesses and properties now.
“I urge all South Australians to take the threat of bushfires seriously and ensure they are bushfire ready,” she said.
What you should do is:
- clear gutters
- mow lawns
- remove fallen branches and debris
- move other flammable materials away from your home

“If you haven’t already, prepare a bushfire survival plan, whether that be a five minute bushfire plan ... or something more in depth," Ms May said.
"People need to know what they will do when a bad fire day approaches, including where they will go, when they will leave, and what they will take.”
The fire season dates follow consultation with bushfire management committees and a final declaration from CFS Chief Officer Brett Loughlin.
Restrictions will apply to:
- Fires without permits
- Burn-offs, including of rubbish and grass clippings
- Fireworks
- Fires in national park reserves, or forest reserves
Permits may be issued under the Fire and Emergency Services Act 2005 by an authorised officer of a local council.
