Cabaret vibes are on Murray Bridge Players and Singers’ wish list
The next show by the city’s leading theatre company will transport audiences to a vintage cocktail lounge for four nights this August and September.

Do you ever wish Murray Bridge had a vintage cocktail lounge, complete with sultry singers and the coolest vibes around?
For four nights only, it will.
Tickets will go on sale this Friday for The Wishlist, a cabaret-style performance of songs from stage and screen by Murray Bridge Players and Singers.
The company will transform Murray Bridge Performing Arts and Function Centre – the town hall – into the hottest lounge in town, with couches, rugs, lamps and a bar inside the main theatre space.
Up on stage will be a six-piece band to accompany 18 different singers, who will take turns – and team up – to present songs from the jazz age right up to contemporary Broadway hits.
Co-director Peta Davis said the show’s title reflected the eclectic mix of songs it would feature.
“It’s a wish list of songs we haven’t performed, or won’t be able to because – for example – they’re from movies that aren’t yet on stage or don’t have (amateur) rights available,” she said.
Co-director Mari Reu said the cabaret would be something different for the company after its sellout productions of the stage musicals Mamma Mia and Priscilla, Queen of the Desert in 2020.
“It will be more of an event,” she said.
“There will be familiar faces and new faces, and familiar faces doing different things.”
As well as entertaining audiences, the show will perform an important function for the non-profit theatre company, too.
Renovations are needed to bring its rehearsal space on Short Street up to code, and to make it safer and more comfortable.
President Benjamin Gallasch said Players and Singers hoped to make the space available to other performing arts groups once the works were complete.
The town hall will be split into four ticketing sections for The Wishlist, with luxurious lounge settings in the front row and tiered seating available at the back.
