A new battery energy storage system (BESS) in Mannum is the last facility to be completed as part of an Australian energy company's energy park project.

Epic Energy oversaw the construction of the Mannum BESS and will continue to own and operate the facility.

The BESS is located alongside the company's two solar farms already established on Mannum Road.

The BESS can send 100 megawatts of power into the electricity grid for up to two hours – enough to power about 16,000 South Australian homes.

It works by absorbing surplus energy when demand is low and releasing it back into the grid when demand peaks, supporting a stable and reliable supply of renewable power.

Epic Energy’s general manager for major projects delivery, Tom Forde, welcomed the news.

“Thank you to all of our internal and external project partners who helped make this complex project a success,” he said.

The project was delivered by E-Storage, who also provided the battery components, and Adelaide-based consolidated power projects.

The milestone means the Mannum Energy Park is now fully constructed and commissioned, representing a significant investment in the local area while supporting the state's energy system.

Epic Energy recently supported the lighting upgrade at the Mannum oval and looked forward to continuing its role in the community.
