Tailem Bend Rotary, Coorong Conversations Matter recognised on Australia Day

Locals past and present, and guests from far afield, have gathered for a light Australia Day lunch, courtesy of the local progress association, at the Tailem Bend Town Hall.
Having recognised Heather Wait, Sandy Przibilla and Malcolm Day as the Coorong district’s citizens of the year earlier at breakfast at Jabuk, the Tailem Bend lunchtime crowd resumed the admiration of the recipients, chatting and congratulating them on their outstanding efforts in making positive differences in their communities.
The sunflower project by the district’s suicide prevention network, Coorong Conversations Matter, was a deserving winner in the community project of the year category.
Tailem Bend Rotary Club’s 40 years of Music Hall was awarded a mayor’s commendation, recognising the impact the long-running event had on many members of the community.
There was a strong feeling of gratitude in the air at Tailem Bend’s Australia Day celebration – it was well attended, and all felt that they were very fortunate to be living in such a wonderful part of the world.
Topping off the lunchtime festivities was a swearing-in ceremony for Joy Sakuyama, of Wellington East, who memorised her pledge of allegiance to Australia – a heart-warming moment.
